The public gear list every member can add from.
This writes to the container’s public database. Everybody can read it; only this account can change it.
Every row needs a source — where its weight can be
checked. The app refuses a catalogue item without one, so a row that has
none is left out here rather than imported and never seen. Weights are
the maker’s figure unless a row says weightIsSpec=false.
What members have weighed
Members can weigh anything in the catalogue and send the number anonymously. Three readings and the middle value wins, so one person weighing their tent with the poles still in it is outvoted rather than averaged in — those arrive ticked and need no judgement.
Fewer than three can still be written, but only by ticking it yourself. That is not verification — nobody weighed it twice — it is somebody reading the number and thinking it plausible. 1,288 g for an Exos 58 is right; 12,880 g is a decimal in the wrong place, and that is the failure worth catching. The app says how many people weighed a thing, so nobody is told three when it was one.
The maker’s figure is left exactly where it is. Wildra holds both and says which is which.
What members have offered
Gear the catalogue doesn’t have, sent by the member who owns it, and the words people searched for and found nothing. Both are a button in the app — nothing is collected quietly — and neither carries a name.
Expect to reject far more than you keep. Most of what somebody types is a name only they use, and this catalogue needs canonical ones. The rejected ones still say what people own and cannot find, which is where to point the scraper next.
